Wu Wei Being and Nothing

Five artists working in video, painting, sound, and installation have been assembled into Being/Nothing, an exhibition focusing on the creative process, viewing it through different philosophies.

The concept is: to explore “the schism between what existential philosopher, Jean-Paul Sartre referred to as being-in-itself and being for-itself and the Taoist concept of Wu Wei or action without desire, motivation or intention.

The exhibition likens the creative process of the artist to that of a Buddhist practitioner reciting sutras or creating a mandala, emphasizing the journey of meditation/practice rather then the end production (work) displayed.”
