Your Guide to Creative China

Liu Bolin for Harpers

February 9, 2012, by CH Staff

Known for his disappearing acts, Liu Bolin has been attracting a lot of attention of late and rightly so – check out this fun collaboration the Chinese artist has recently completed with luxury fashion mag Harper's Bazaar, brought to our attention by the all-seeing DesignBoom.

For the fun photo-led feature, Liu made the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, Alber Elbaz of Lanvin, Angela Missoni, and Valentino's Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli disappear into their signature patterns and designs to amazing effect. The project marks a move away from his previous pieces, in which the artist himself becomes the hidden star of the works.

Be sure to check HarpersBazaar.com for details and a discussion of not only Bolin's creative process, but also each profiled designer. Jean Paul Gaultier describes the experience as "like evolution". He continues, "It doesn't stop. He becomes part of it, morphing from a man into a chameleon. And it's very good for my work to be a chameleon."

His is our favorite, incidentally, but do take a look at all four of the four masterpieces right here, as well as an amazing video of the artist at work.
