Sock portrait by Hong Yi
Shanghai-based artist Hong Yi - or Red as she's otherwise known - has quickly earned a reputation for creating amazing portraits out of the most unlikely of materials. Just last year she wowed with a likeness of Jay Chou, crafted solely from coffee stains, whilst other works include Yao Ming 'painted' with a basketball.

The talented creative is now at it again, this time with a portrait of Chinese film producer Zhang Yimou made entirely from socks.

According to The Huffington Post, "Red was inspired to work with socks when she wandered down an alleyway and saw laundry hanging out to dry on bamboo sticks. This simple setup stood out against Shanghai's busy cosmopolitan surroundings, and made her consider the surprising beauty of that moment..."

The work relies on no fewer than 750 pairs of socks and judging by these pictures is pretty stunning. For more on that, check HuffPo here
