[In Focus]: Kaws’ ‘Where the End Starts’

The big show this month for your WeChat moments and Instagram is now open at the Yuz Museum.  Inhabiting the space somewhere between art proper, proper commerce, and pop culture is American artist and designer KAWS aka Brian Donnelly, exhibiting a show entitled  'Where the End Starts’.

Known for his own characters and his reinvention of cultural icons from Mickey Mouse to The Simpsons to SpongeBob SquarePants, Donnelly’s work has popped up everywhere from Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade to the world’s foremost modern art galleries.  And now Shanghai.  The show is comprised of over 100 of his sculptures, drawings, toys and ads created in a career than spans two decades and shows no sign of slowing down.  Central piece of the exhibition is the towering "Companion (Passing Through)”, ideal for an interesting  photo op.  SmartShanghai had a buzz through the gallery.
