TOMATITO @Saigon

Tomatito is a casual, fun oriented Spanish tapas restaurant and bar. It takes inspiration from the 80’s in Spain, the crazy years after the dictatorship while everything was possible.
This is the third restaurant iteration, after Shanghai and Manila outlets. We wanted to elevate the concept to a slightly more premium positioning while keeping the identity as a fun, casual tapas bar.

Tomatito is located on the second floor of a 1930’s warehouse townhouse at the heart of Saigon’s District 1. Right next to the iconic Ben Than Market. It seats around 100 in a space organized around three areas: lounge, dining room and bar-semi open kitchen.

The customer is welcomed by a vintage side car polka dot Vespa, that doubles up as a DJ booth. The lounge area, located next to the entrance its decorated with custom designed wallpapers by Batabasta, vintage artwork from Barcelona’s flea markets and neon sculptures that play tribute to Picasso’s bull heads.

The main dining room is divided by a see-through bold red cabinet that filters the views and anchors the overall space. First area linked to the lounge opens up to the balconies with vintage blinds.

The second dining area is structured around the bar. The high bar gets crowned by a Tomatito neon sign that powers up the room. Semi open iron windows provide glimpses of the kitchen action. A banquet cabinet with a vintage original bullfighter dress and props provides a theatrical backdrop to the main room.

Overall decoration and design plays between refined and industrial, vintage and modern, playing homage to Spain’s traditional tapas bar and culture.
