Congratulations to Spanish designer Anjara Garcia who opened up her eponymous brand's first China showroom in Shanghai's 800 Show
last week. Well established in her native Europe, the label is known for its stylish womenswear in unusual materials such as Mongolian wool, leather and rabbit fur.
Lots of that is on show at the new Shanghai HQ, courtesy of a very pretty Spring/ Summer 12 collection, boasting a gorgeous array of fine knits and crotchet pieces in flowing shapes and a muted palette of beige, khaki and cream.
To celebrate, they invited fashionable friends, media and investors to a decidedly Spanish soir?e, with suitably themed canap?s (think jamon iberico
, erm, chocolate brownie...) to soak up free-flowing booze... Before all that, the designer herself was on hand to introduce key pieces from her latest collection, helped by several stunning - and really, really tall - models.
The space itself is inside Jingan's 800 Show, a complex of villas and factories converted to creative office space, a smattering of eateries and big events hall, regularly used for exhibitions, fashion shows and the like. All white washed exposed brick work and big windows, it's a great space, and currently adorned with arty photographs of the making of Anjara Garc?a Shanghai HQ. According to the Spaniard's team, this is just the first step into what's hoped to be a pan-Asia expansion - sounds like we'll be hearing much more from the brand in coming months.
Also celebrating this month on a rather grander - but no less chic - scale was Coach
, who recently hosted a dinner in Beijing's 798 district to mark the American brand's 70th anniversary. We weren't invited, alas, but Gwyneth Paltrow was - she entertained the likes of jewelery designer Bao Bao Wan and filmmaker Steven Sebring with a series of songs from her repertoire. Sounds fabulous and for on that, check WWD here
